Won't you think socialized medicine is great when...

when your daddy gets cancer, but he's 70 years old and the medical plan says they can't spare the "scarce" medical treatments to cure someone who is no longer productive, that he needs to accept the consequences of aging, and he has two choices: to die in unendurable pain (because pain meds are "scarce" too) or commit assisted suicide to spare himself and his loved ones the pain and expense of a slow, agonizing death.
This is what it will be.

  • What difference does it make if Obama is running it? We have some really bad Priministers in my country that have never done that to the elderly.

  • OP- the insurance companies are doing that now, except age isn't a variable it's illness, treatment, dollars and cents. Many, many cancer treatments are denied reimbursement, period. Can you self pay? Sure, if you have the thousands of dollars a month that some of these treatments cost.

Synagis is a treatment that provides some immunity and lessens the damage caused by the RSV virus. It is a drug that is given IM 1x month for the rsv season which typically runs Oct-April in most areas of our country. Each shot costs 2,000 $ and is NOT covered by many insurance plans. That's right folks, some parents are getting bills for 12,000-out-of-pocket. Twins? Triplets?

Ppl are already having to make the hard choices between treatment and other bills.
    Reform is necessary.
