  • Basically, they are detaching the bag of waters (amniotic sac) from the opening of the cervix with their finger. It is supposed to produce prostaglandins and naturally induce labor. For me, it felt..crampy. I am wary of it because it can make your water break but I suppose if that is what you are wanting.. ;)

  • That is the breaking of the water.

  • You get horrible cramps, possibly spotting, and then it ONLY works if you're already ready for labor.

    Not worth it imo.

  • It is NOT the breaking of water. It's the detachment of the amniotic from around the cervix.

  • Be wary of crochet hooks! lol They will use a similar instrument if they are going to break your water.
