Is ramandhan like christmas?

I saw that the muslims are having their holy month soon and I was wondering if it's like advent and christmas?

  • No, it's actually pretty far from it. Ramadan is kind of the equivalent of Lent.
Participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, sex, smoking, and anything that is not of a good nature or in excess from sunrise until sunset. They ask for forgiveness for their sins, guidance, etc..
This happens the 9 month of the Islamic calendar.

  • NO!!! During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating and other things from sunup to sundown. They are allowed to drink water to keep hydrated. It is kind of like when Catholics fast during Lent.

  • And aren't pregnant and nursing women exempt from fasting? Y'know, for the sake of the baby?

  • Sorry but drinking water is also off limits during the fast... unless of medical conditions that a doctor has advised against the fast...

  • Fasting during Ramadan is an obligation, it's not fasting if they are just 'cutting down' on their eating. But perhaps the friend had medical reasons for not fasting.
'Eid is more like Christmas in the way they give gifts to the children and spend time visiting family and friends.
