How to get that smell out of my kids lunch box

My child has had the same soft plastic lunch box for about 6 months. I pop it in the wash every now and then, but the smell of spilt food and drink won't come off of it. Any suggestions, or do I buy a new one?

  • I would just buy a new one. When my daughter packs for school I wash it everynight.

  • I'd make a baking soda and water paste and smear it in, let it dry and sit partially open. then rinse it out

  • Get rid of it.

  • Take some newspaper, wad it up, place it in the lunch bag and zip it up. Leave it overnight. The smell should be gone. If not, try making a baking soda and vinegar paste, scrubbing it down inside, let it sit overnight, then rinse. No sense in throwing away something that is perfectly good.

  • Bleach and water. If that doesn't work, then get a new one.

  • Vinegar is an odor absorber - it works on everything. Just pour vinegar on the bottom, close the lid, and let it soak for a while. Good luck!
