Have you ever smoked while breastfeeding?

Not at the same time of course, but have you done it? And if so, what differences have you seen if any?

  • More cranky when he hadn't eaten for a while. I know it's horrible and I'm sorry for doing it. When his nicotine would go low he would get really fussy, I had to wean him to formula very slowly because of that. The doctors said I needed to breastfeed for at least a few weeks because I smoked while pregnant and he would be addicted.

  • Even if mama is smoking, breastmilk is preferable to formula. I haven't smoked while pregnant or nursing.

  • I breastfeed and smoke about 4 or 5 cigarettes a day.
I've looked into it and everything I've read says that breastfeeding is still better than formula feeding, and that health risks increase/occur when mom is a heavy smoker (20+).
I didn't smoke while pregnant, but it only took 3 days to start up again :(
