  • Breasts.
Diapers (cloth or disposable) cloth is more economical
Wipes - cloth is more economical and less prone to causing a rash
Onesies or gowns (don't worry about outfits, they are fussy and get outgrown quickly)
    Car seat
    Baby Sling
Crib/Cosleeper/PackNPlay (bassinets can't be used for anything else)
Prefolds/flat diapers/receiving blankets (doesn't matter. Can be used for a multitude of tasks)

The rest of the stuff is really just icing and not really "needed". Honestly mittens and booties fall off constantly, are a hassle, and the occasional scratch from a wayward finger will heal. Babies are tactile...too much fabric is just a pain for them and for you.

Avoid, at all costs POWDER and LOTION. Powder is BAD for the lungs especially powder with talcum in it. Lotions are VERY drying and do nothing except cover the problem. If you need to use something to moisturize use olive or coconut oil

  • onesies, receiving blankets, burp cloths, a few boxes of diapers to get you through the first couple weeks or so (i would advise you to buy size 1, maybe 1-2 packages of newborns), sleepers, socks, a pair of infant nail clippers, nasal syringe, unscented hypoallergenic wipes, maybe the little mittens to keep him/her from scratching their face (not to worry if you can't find them, you can always put a pair of their socks over their hands if you wanted to), a swing is always a bonus, some soft baby washcloths and a towel or two, a couple of hats, the car seat of course, and a thermometer is always a good thing to have on hand as well. Best of luck to you!!!

  • Car set to get baby home, place for baby to sleep (crib, basinet or co-sleeper). A few things for baby to wear (you can always buy more after the first week) Receiving blankets to swaddle (they double as great burp rags), Pads for you, diapers and wipes.
Things like a stroller are nice, as well as bouncy seat or swing, but not every baby likes them. Sometimes borrowing one is better if that is an option for you, see if they like it.
Mostly try to make sure you have help on hand for those first few weeks. Someone who can come by and help with cleaning or meals, or even just give you the chance to take a nap.
The most important thing is love though. I must agree it is the only thing your baby really Needs.

  • And by the way, there is no need to circumcise. That will be one less thing to worry about and it will make diaper changes more pleasant.
