How important is the yearly check up for kids with autism.

My nephew has autism , he doesn't have it really bad, my sister has skipped his doctors appointment this year and I think she skipped last year also. She also made a comment to are aunt that she thinks he is growing out of it. You dont out grow autism. do you?
