What date did your child have to be 5 by in order to start Kindergarten?

My son was 2 weeks short of making the cut. The cutoff date where we live is June 1st, which I thought was extremely early. He already has been through full time preschool 5 days a week, 7 hrs a day. And now he has to go to preschool AGAIN with his little sister! Also it is only a couple hrs. a day, 2 days aweek. I am so frustrated! So what was the date where you live?

  • Hmm that's weird, where in CO are you. I'm in a north suburb of Denver & our district cut off is Sept 15th. The only thing I can think of is that they don't have the extra funding to hire more kindergarten teachers so they have to make the cut off date earlier so the classes aren't over-crowded.

  • Have you looked into any of the charter schools? My son is going to a charter school - they offer full day kindergarten and it's a free public one.
