A lie? Irony? How can republicans say how horrible claim government run health care is bad when...

They want to keep social security and medicare?

Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) even admitted he would have voted for both programs as well ...so they ARE a government run "socialistic" program that even Reagan raised taxes to fund...How can you argue that a government plan would be "bad for America" when the ones we have now NO ONE wants to get rid of?

  • Sadly, Medicarehs been partially privitzed(Medicare Advantage) with disastrous results. It is surprising that the Right does not want to complete the privitization of Medicare, and privitize the VA; they have been quite clear about their desire to privitize social security.

Many millions will still find themselves broke in 30 years when they want to retire and find there is no Social Security for them. There will be no medicare or other programs unless China allows for them. Reason we are saving for our own retirement. We lost in the market but we have gained it all back and then some recently buy playing in the market. Smart people will make money right now. Stupid people will cry out for more government control.

  • Social security and Medicare are already in place. Badly run, going broke, but in place. People have done their retirement plans with both programs in place, so ending them could be disastrous.  They fit into the social welfare system along with various public assistance programs and Medicaid.

These programs were put in place at a time where very few adults actually reached 65, as a safety net to keep our elderly from starving by providing the equivilent of a small pension.

  • Social Security was started in 1935 to help those suffering so much from the Great Depression. It was never really meant to last this long kind of like the federal income tax. It was also a temporary measure to pay the war debt. Too many people became dependent on the Soc. Sec. instead of saving for their retirement themselves as they did before the market crash. If you can come up with a way to help wean these people off the program, I will buy you a drink. Bush tried, but he was shot down as a hater of the elderly. It was never meant to do what it is doing now.

  • I think we should learn a lesson from these entitlement programs.

    Federal Government is NOT efficient.

Federal Government is NOT fiscally responsible.

Federal Government is more about special interest and waste than they are about the people.

Question: Sooooo, why would we want to add MORE entitlement to an already nearing entitlement-bankrupting nation?
