My daughter will only eat pureed fruit! Is this a problem?

Do you think this is a problem? My 14 month old will eat fruit if it's pureed (baby food), and the only whole fruit she'll eat are bananas. However, bananas make her constipated, so I only give her a couple per week.

I've tried apples (thinly sliced), strawberries blueberries, kiwi, cantaloupe...nope! She'll spit them out. BUT, if I give her applesauce, or pureed blueberries or strawberries, she loves it!

She has no problem with bits of meat, egg, toast, soft pasta, waffles, crackers and whole veggies.

Any advice?

  • Since she'll eat other foods, I think I'd keep pureeing her fruits. Maybe make them a little chunky?

  • What about vegetables?

  • OP

She'll eat whole vegetables as long as they are cooked till they are soft. It's weird, but she actually prefers veggies over fruit.

  • I would tend to say that there maybe a problem. Does she eat other foods that are chunky or is it that she only avoids chunky fruits? If she is avoiding all textures other than puree, you need to have her checked for swollowing difficulties or for sensory problems.
