  • Ugh, lets see if I remember... Calculator, protractor, 5 subject notebook/trapper keeper, folders, pens pencils, grid paper... Think thats all for now until they get some specifics from the teachers.

  • At my school, each teacher was very specific what kind of folder they wanted you to use. for the first day I would make sure they had paper, pens, a pencil, their required reading books from over the summer... everything else they will tell you on the first day. In math class there will probably be a specific calculator they will need, so I would wait on that too. Grid paper's not a bad idea but its not certain to be necessary. Man it seems like there should be so much more but I can't remember!

  • At my daughter's school, the teachers pass out a syllabus and supply list the first day of school, though some have it available on the day the student go to pick up their schedules and get their photo IDs.

Let me mentally go through my daughter's backpack: Probably a graphing calculator (like the TI-84 silver); a 3-ring binder with dividers for each class; lots of loose leave paper; pens and pencils; index cards; post-its; compass and protractor; good erasers; white out; flash drive; glue sticks; poster board; science fair board; pencil case; colored markers; stapler.

  • A binder, four folders (they have block scheduling, so they only have four classes a semester), colored pencils, black pens, blue pens, pencils, and a TI84 calculator. He'll receive a new list in January when he starts four new classes.
