The silent majority, how do you know?

I see this tossed around a lot, that the "silent majority" thinks one way. And every time I see it, I think the same thing. If it really is a silent majority, then how do you know it's the majority if they're silent?

  • I think they figure it's the silent majority when those making a fuss don't represent the majority number of people. For example, 25 people of a hundred complaining about something when 75 are not. The 75 is the silent majority.
