  • I interpret it like this congress basically cannot establish a church for all of the people.

England was fled BECAUSE the government there DID do that and America became so the people COULD exercise their beliefs

Who also realizes our founders founded this nation as a REPUBLIC? NOT a democracy? IMO States should get back rights they have lost.

  • The government cannot set up a church or stop any church from forming.
We can speak freely without fear of government retribution.
Our press can print the truth.
We can protest and ask the government to listen to the people.

That last one was taken away from us in the last administration.... remember "protest free zones" wherever W would be? And lets not get started on the rights stealing Patriot Act.

  • Congress cannot make any religion the official religion of the USA, and it isn't going to stop anyone from choosing what religion to be a part of. No one is going to be in trouble with the law if they speak their mind (within reason, no yelling out "FIRE!" in a crowded theater, etc). The government is not going to tell newspapers what to print (or any other media what to publish or broadcast). Citizens have the right to peaceably assemble for whatever reason. You can air your grievances to the government without fear of going to prison and never being seen again.

  • Anon #1: note the wording is PEACEABLY. That means in a calm manner, respectful of others even. NOT screeching stupid racist hate and crappy urban legends passed around online.

Wow, I can tell who is educated and informed about our country, civics, and politics and who isn't just by their answers.

Please provide facts to back up this statement. I understand how the Patriot Act destroyed our 4th Amendment rights; and I cannot make sense of your statement
