  • I take my dog running every day so she gets pretty dirty...

She gets a soap bath once a week, but is hosed off and toweled every day.

  • Its recomended they only get one once every 6 months so you dont destroy the natural oils in their skin. The only time mine got one was when they went to the groomer for their summer haircuts. I have a new dog and as far as I know he's never had a bath, but he needs one, he's stinky.

  • Dogs have oils that protect their skin and Chi's have tendencies of having sensitive skin. Unless you are taking your dog out running in the mud everyday, bathing them that much is highly unnecessary. Opt for once a month at most. My chi gets bathed about once every 2-3 months.
You can also buy dog wipes to wipe his paws and face now and then, they are very helpful and keep your dog smelling fresh and clean without damaging his skin.

  • P.S. Just wanted to add that we use a very, very gentle oatmeal-based doggie shampoo for my dog. She has never had skin problems.

  • my jack russell will hop in the shower with the kids whenever he can. i think he averages about every 3 days. he gets a shampoo and conditioning and his teeth brushed, his toenails clipped regularly and his anal glands squeezed monthly. eeeeewwwwwwwww.
the blue tick hound will get a bath whenever she needs it, she lives outside.

  • once a month. she hates it, but she gets her monthly Heartgard afterward as a treat. then a day or two later (so her natural oils can build back up) she gets her Frontline. she's an indoor dog, but like clockwork she starts smelling like feet after about 4 weeks!

  • I have to bathe my two Shelties every two weeks at the LEAST because when they go outside they play so hard chasing each other, wrestling and mouthing each other that they get stinky soooooo fast. They are inside about 90% of the time.
