True or false: If you don't pee after sex you get a UTI?

A couple of people told me this.
Sometimes I just fall asleep and don't pee and I haven't gotten a UTI.

My mom's friend said the semen can get up your "pee hole" and into your bladder and cause an infection. Really? Is it true or just a myth kind of thing?

  • It is true that peeing after sex removes any fluids that may have gotten into your urethra during sex. Those fluids can cause UTI

  • False. I've never had a UTI in my life and I don't run to the bathroom after sex. I usually go right to sleep!

  • It's not the semen, but the bacteria that gets in your 'pee-hole'.

Having sex may cause urinary tract infections in women because bacteria can be pushed into the urethra. Using a diaphragm can lead to infections because diaphragms push against the urethra and make it harder to completely empty the bladder. The urine that stays in the bladder is more likely to grow bacteria and cause infections.

  • never heard of it. But sex in water can cause them as the dirt from your bodies can more easily get inside you
