eye infection

my son is 3 weeks old today and this morning he woke up with a slight eye infection .when he wakes for a feed etc his eye is stuck closed with muck.i've been cleaning it with cottonwool and warm water is there anything else i can do or any home remedies to treat his eye?

  • sounds like its a blocked tear duct - my youngest had that problem for her first 6months or so til she outgrew it. all crusty and yucky and gooey.

    a warm cloth compress to keep it goo free is all you can really do.

    if its bad enough the dr. can do a procedure to unblock it but its not fun.

  • My youngest had a blocked tear duct - very common with babies. Just keep using a warm, clean washcloth to unblock it. Usually they clear up by themselves. My nephew's never cleared up and they had to do an outpatient surgery when he was a little over 1.
