Why are republicans pushing the "governments trying to kill you" lies?

Soon enough, Palin linked to the piece, stating that "the Veterans Administration encourages veterans to forego care as they make end-of-life decisions." And Fox News' Sean Hannity and RNC chair Michael Steele were calling it the equivalent of "death panels" for military veterans.

They failed to mention that the so-called "death book" contains the same advance-care planning required of all health care organizations under federal law, has been in use since 1997 and was developed with the input of interfaith ministers.

Now its the vets....What is up with that?

  • The simple fact that seems to escape you, is that the country has no money to fund a massive healthcare program. That is just the start of the issue. Medicare is being cut by billions and that won't be in the red tape that is a massive wasteful expense. It will be in care. So many things you just don't comprehend.

THAT is a valid argument to be debated! The government is out to KILL you is NOT. So why use THAT route?

  • Carpy, I DO understand what you saying...but my question pertains to thsi campaign of lies and fear. Your "side" could get MANY more on it if it wasn't condoning such horrific behavior!

scaring old people to fear that they may be murdered by mysterious death panels and now VETS are being "encouraged" to do so ...come on...Not only is that extremely DANGEROUS but it isn't advancing a cause that COULD very well have merit

  • Because the right has, for as long as I can remember, used fear to push their politics. If you can frighten people into thinking the scary guy in charge is going to personally come and smother granny in her sleep instead of paying for her meds, then you can feed them whatever line of crap you want and they'll buy it.

  • I think that what these people, and others like them including us, are doing is not just looking at getting it passed and then going on to something else. They are actually looking down the road at the actual possible scenarios of use/misuse of the statue. You, and others, are trusting that everyone in the country will not abuse the "soft" language of some of the bill. Experience has taught us that there are people out there who will exploit any chink available. If there is ANY possibility anyone could turn the language into a "death panel", then any component which may allow someone to exploit that has to be examined and taken out. Fear of people who are unscrupulous far out weighs the language of a bill that is too large for any one group to read, digest, and understand enough to explain it to the masses. Let them go at it. It's healthy.

  • The government plan is not setting out to kill you, DIRECTLY but by denying certain lifesaving measures for certain populations, they will end up dying in an INDIRECT manner....hence the "death panel"

The committee that is to be established under ObamaCare will be the ones accepting/denying care that doctors and other medical professionals are to be held to--well, if they want to be paid/reimbursed for their services, that is!

"$orry, we would if we could, but we can't, $o we won't." (note the subtlety?)

And so has the left, i.e. global warming comes to mind. Don't be a hypocrite.

And cuts will have to be made because of a lack of money for funding and it will cost lives. They have NO business reaching into our healthcare. America was founded on the rights of the INDIVIDUAL not on gov control. The problems will be best fixed in healthcare by the PRIVATE sector not the gov.
