What foods would you serve?

My mom is on a tight budget for my baby shower so I need ideas for what foods to make. They need to be easy to make and cheap. I really like finger foods, but I dont want veggie trays and fruit trays...well I wouldnt mind if they had something extra. Help please!! Also I dont want a full blown meal like spaghetti or anything

  • The frozen section of the grocery store usually has some awesome appetizers. Pop a bunch of different types in and serve with dipping sauces.

  • We always make this chip dip for parties/ events.

Combine one bar softened cream cheese, one tub sour cream (16 oz) and a package of taco seasoning. Spread it in a pie pan or baking dish and top with taco cheese, green pepper, tomato and green onion. Serve with tortilla chips.

  • Chicken wings (a big bag is cheap), sorry. I'm still thinking lol. Not all of these together of course

Build your own mini sandwiches. Buy different kinds of breads and make a tray w/deli meats, cheeses, etc.

Hummas w/different kinds of pita bread, naan, or pita chips

Sweet and sour meatballs, egg rolls, fresh spring rolls, crab wontons

  • Last idea going w/the asian theme. Pot stickers, and tempura battered shrimp and veggies (tempura batter is super easy to make, just flour and water)

  • My mom & I are making little PB&J sandwich - both white & wheat bread, chunky & creamy peanut butter, & three different types of preserves (we're using preserves instead of jelly so it's a little richer in flavor - we chose blackberry, cherry, & apricot). Then make a big variety & cut them into fours diagonally (so they're little triangles). Put them on a cupcake tray (those layered trays that go from big to small like a wedding cake) & there you go =)

  • my shower was just this past weekend and my step-dad made a huge tray of pulled pork, which is cheap to make, we had meatballs (SO's mom made those) & sausage and peppers (my mom made that) also and a big thing of rolls so everyone could make sandwiches. my grandma made potato salad, my aunt made macaroni salad. someone made a green salad and there were chips and veggies and dip. oh! and my SO made fruit salad :) it's nice when everyone helps out a little, things run smoothly then!
