My sons ear had ear wax in it 2 days ago so i cleaned it, the next day the same ear had more so i cleaned it again later on that day i noticed it had more yellowish orange goop in it so once again i cleaned it, Im starting to worry is this an ear infection? This morning when i checked it it was more yellow and crusty then waxy and hes been pretty fussy since last night he wasnt fussy with in these three days untill last night and today does that mean it has ruptured? • If it was ruptured you would know it.. It would be constant drainage and it would have a greenish color to it.If you are cleaning his ears with qtips STOP!! you are doing more harm than good. Sounds just like old wax build up to me if he seems like his ear is hurting him and you're too concerned call his doctor but sounds normal to me.

  • Just sounds like excessive wax. As long as he isn't complaining don't worry. If you want you can always call his pedi for advice.

  • If he is fussy it could be a sign of ear infection, the earlier you take him in the easier it will be on both of you. What are you cleaning his ears with? you have to be very careful if using a q-tip dont insert it in the ear only use it to wipe away what is on the outside, you can also use a warm washcloth or one with peroxide on it.

  • Sounds like it could have ruptured. something like this happened to my son when he was less than a year old and it did rupture. He wasn't fussy at all just woke up one morning with a crusty ear and a low fever. He still doesn't fuss much when he's sick. Now as soon as he gets a little fever I take him to the pedi to rule out an ear infection. If it continues to happen it could cause scarring and hearing loss. Take him to the doctor.

  • btw, when an eardrum ruptures the child isn't typically fussy because once it ruptures the pain & pressure from an infection is gone and is actually a relief for them

  • Stop cleaning his ears!! The wax is working its way out of the ear canal...this is a GOOD thing! If you can see it on the OUTSIDE, wipe it away...but only if you can see it outside of the canal!!
