2 yr old that does not copy when prompted......"can you say ______"

my child never says a woed when someone says
"Can you say________"
is this something i should be worried about
she is quite a babbler and does say some words just fine, but never ever has she repeated something that someone asked her too
is she slow verbally, or just plain old stubborn?

  • Probably just stubborn. Give it a year and then see how her language developes.

  • Sounds like she doesn't say anything unless she wants to. She isn'a show dog.

  • My children aren't good "performers". They'll say what they want when they want it, but never when they're told to.

  • i wouldnt. the fact that she is already babbling and saying words on her own term is great ... if she wasnt able to do babbling and saying few words then i would be worried & looking into asking the Dr who would usually recommend you to B-2-3. but kids are kids they never really like to listen much. only when they choose to.

  • My son didn't start that until closer to three, and then it was only like "Tell Daddy the new word you learned today" that would get him to repeat himself on command. My daughter is 19 months and says the things she wants to say when they need to be said. She won't say something if she feels she doesn't need to. She says up when she wants out of her high chair or out of the tub, or up on the couch. But she won't if it isn't what she wants to happen. Does that make sense?
