Worried...

About how much my daughter is eating. She is almost 8 months old. She is beastfeeding still...But is also eatting baby food. She get the food twice a day and its about half of the 2nd food gerber containers. Im worried cause she only nurses about three times a day...and maybe once or twice at night. She is really active and doing or attempting to do everything a normal 8 month old should. But do you thing she is getting enough food?? Thanks Momma's.

  • She isn't nursing as often as I would expect an 8 month old. Breastfeeding should remain the baby's main source of nutrition throughout the first year. I would expect an 8 month old to still nurse around 8 times every 24 hours.

It's hard to tell how much a baby gets when nursing. Perhaps your baby gets a lot each feeding. If your baby is growing well then there is nothing to worry about. You don't need to feed jar food. Your baby can eat regular food and self feed. For info on starting solids and feeding the breastfed baby go to www.kellymom.com

  • Breastfeeding should be the main source of nutrition until at least a year old. Solids should always come after nursing to be sure she gets all the milk that she needs. If you are not nursing first, that is what needs to change. She is probably filling up on solids and doesn't want to nurse as much. Solids are not for nutrition yet..
