  • Yes, it matters a great deal how you adopt. Foster care adoptions are very inexpensive. Domestic newborn and foreign adoptions can run from $20,000 to $40,000+. There is a huge demand for newborns, particularly healthy white children. It is less expensive to adopt children with special needs or from different ethnic backgrounds.

  • Adoption costs vary per agency & state. Private adoption agencies can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Adopting from social services may only cost a few hundred. Mine cost me $40.

  • As the previous posters stated their is a wide range of costs to adopt. Foreign adoptions vary in price depended on the country and type of child you are adopting. Last I looked Guatamala was the cheapest forgein adoption at around $17,000 while Russia was one of the most expensive at nearly $40,000.
Domestic private adoptions are also quite expensive. Again $10,000 or more.
Fostering to adopt is the most inexpensive, but you are less likely to get an infant (which is perfectly fine with me, but some people only want babies). I would personally urge you to go this route. Not because of cost, but because the thousands of children in every state that are desperatly in need of loving homes.
