  • it just tells you that we are human and we all make mistakes, the praised men with multiple wives would have to come to God for forgiveness for doing that or else they would just go to hell. If you read and study the Bible you will be amazed how much you can learn and your questions can be answerd. also try this website

  • The Bible is perfectly clear about God's Holy Institution of Marriage. It is one man, with one woman , for one lifetime. God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Eve and Julie. Genesis 2:24. God never permitted at any time for men to have multiple wives. the men of the bible lost so many blessings for doing so. When we read about Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Solomon, and others taking multiple wives, we also read about the consequences of this sin in their life. Our obedience to God and His Word brings blessings, our rebellion to God and His Word brings consequences! Marriage is God's Holy Institution. It is a wonderful gift from God and his plan for most people's lives. against God's admonition in Deuteronomy 17:17

  • These prohibitions grew out of cultural preferences and issues of control. Early in human history women & men would enter into a partnership for the sake of survival, sex was a bonus since they were in the same house, but if one was away for a time it was generally acceptable to have sex with others. A man & woman who were "married" were responsible for any children born to the woman at that time. Eventually men decided they didn't want to be responsible for children conceived by the woman with other men, so it became unacceptable for women to have extramarital sex, but not for men. This was the case in many societies for a long time. More recently, it was decided that marriage was primarily an emotional partnership, not an economical or political one, so both parities have the responsibility to give exclusive sexual rights to their spouse. When this became the norm all other sexual activities became taboo.

  • The men in the Bible who had multiple wives were before Christ. Some went against Gods laws and had multiple wives even though he said not to. The way God Intended was for man to have one wife, Example Adam and Eve Genesis: 2:24 That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh. After Jesus Christ came and established Christianity He reestablished God's standards of the first man and women at Matthew 19:5,6 "For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh. So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therfore, what God has yoked together let no man put apart." Also 1 more is 1 timothy 3:2-6 read that and it should help....

  • Why is it a sin? Well for starters I don't believe God is wet blanket with no desire for us to enjoy ourselves at all.

Rather he knows where the most enjoyment and pure (and most important LASTING) happiness is found. I don't need to list everything that can go wrong from sex outside of marriage (from STD's to unwanted children who don't get the benefit of family life).

I think it's like making your little kids eat a popsicle outside. There's nothing wrong with the popsicle, you want them to enjoy it....but you just want to keep them from making a mess in your house while they're at it.

  • The multiple wives in the Bible thing being okay for some of the guys (Abraham) but not okay for others (David got some flack for it for example)

I think it's the rare exception under God's command thing and closely tied to fertility stuff. Abraham was supposed to be the founder of whole religious nation - it was kind of important for him to have lots of kids.
