George Washington Quote...What do you think?

However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.

  • Well, it just goes to show history repeats itself. What they worked so hard to do and tried to free themselves from, they knew that someday it would happen again, if we were not careful and take heed to their words. Unfortunately we don't listen very well, and study history enough, because we are bound to repeat it once again.

  • We have been so concerned with the enemy outside, that we never suspected to be undone from the inside.

You need to repeat History 101. The first Thanksgiving occurred more than 100 yrs before the FF came along.....ditto for slavery.

I don't know what your prob is with the LA purchase.

  • George often voiced his concern about the corruption of power. He also worried that the person sitting in the chair of the presidency would try to become the "king" instead of the president. Power is a dangerous thing. It all too often corrupts those who obtain it. Power becomes the reason for seeking the office instead of service to the nation.
