Catholic Churchs in New Jersey hand out flyer against gay marriage...what do you think?

I find it absurd that the Catholic Church will protect and hide child molesters but will waste millions of dollars fighting against a union of two consenting loving adults. Marriage should be about loving, supportive, nurturing relationships, and such relationships are not dependent on gender. Gay marriages will only strengthen and enrich the social concept of marriage. What does marriage have to do with the Bible, or the Scripture, or Jesus Christ? This may be news to you, but people of all religions get married, and so do agnostics and atheists who don't even believe in God. Even if Jesus, who was supposed to be all-forgiving, can't accept gay marriage, that doesn't mean the state cannot legally recognize it. It is wrong for a church that should be teaching love and forgiveness to fuel the fire of hate and homophobia in this country.

  • This is a ridiculous question. Why would the Church be FOR something that the Bible, which is its foundation, teaches is wrong?

Why should the Church change its values to suit your agenda?

  • Free speech the Church can say what it pleases as long as the flyers are not promoting hate crimes. I am sure they fliers don't say anything about homophobia. I am sure they go by what they teach, Love the sinner hate the sin. They are not condoning gay marriage thats their right. They are not telling people to go lynch some gays. get over it.

  • Do you know what "intrinsically evil" means? Intrinsic evil refers to actions that are morally evil in such a way that is essentially opposed to the will of God or proper human fulfillment. The key consideration here is that intrinsically evil actions are judged to be so solely by their object, independently of the intention that inspires them or the circumstances that surround them.

So no it is not homophobic at all. Think before you type.

  • Whatever floats their boat. Their money, their church, their right.

Makes a lot of people think they have lost it - kind of like the rep here who said banning gay marriage was going to be the number one concern while in Congress....really? All that is going on, and you want to focus on gay marriage? There really are more pressing issues.

I think it's a smoke screen. Too many have seen the ugly underbelly of the Catholic Church.
