  • As for being too hot during it in the crock pot;less electricity equating to less heat.
I don't understand why 'we Americans' don't include soup for meals more myself,actually...and as for it being..'the poor man's meal' in this economy that might not be a bad idea. Hmm,I have some leftover chicken and turkey....thanks for the idea!!! 'Poor man's meal'..'watered down dinner',my arse, sister! Most 'poor men/women' don't get meat often...uhoh..I'm poor then, huh?

  • is the question
why dont we include soup for dinner?
If so, I make soups for dinner, but not with every dinner...
soup usually becomes my fiance's lunch, with a bread roll, when he works long days

  • Well... I guess it depends on the weather as well.
When it's blazing hot, I will not have hot soup in front of me. :/
With that said, I like soup but for dinner everyday would just get on my nerves a little bit.

  • I'm actually making split pea soup this evening.(first time here for me this should be interesting! LOL) And we had chicken noodle soup and tuna salad for lunch. However, on any given "dinner night" we never have soup. Salad...yes, soup...nope. I love soup, brocolli cheese and clam chowder are my faves. Maybe my kids would eat better too for us if we served soup once in a while. Sometimes they are picky eaters.

  • We have alot of soup in the fall and winter. I always make extra chicken and roast beef. Freeze it then it's ready to go for soup when I need to make it.

I also freeze soup and chili for my husband's hunting shack during deer season. He just pulls out his crockpot, throws it in frozen and when he's ready to go in at the end of the day it's hot and ready!

  • It's not very filling. You have to eat bread with it to get full. It's a poor man's dish. It's a watered down dinner to make it go further.
