  • Do you want him trained to a potty pad or go outside and do his business? If you want him pas trained you need to put it near the door and watch him for signs that he needs to go. Take him there and make him stay and use a command to potty. He really needs to be out side at his age to go. And the best way is take take him for walks. If you are in a neighbor hood where other dogs are they will have left messages and he will pick up on that scent and leave his message. Take him out when you have fed him and during the day for a run to excercice and he will get the message. Dog parks are great training areas. You do need to pick up after them but it may help him get the idea. Also watch him for signs he has to go...sniffing the floor for a spot or going near the door. Small dogs are hard to break but it can be done. Wash area with odor remover also so he won't want to go there. Good luck and have a great time with your pup.

  • Okay, do you have a crate for the dog? If not, get one. Then whenver you can't fully supervise your dog, put it in the crate. When you are supervising fully, take the dog out every half hour to start with, and make a huge fuss "Gotta go potty? Potty potty POTTY!" When the dog "performs" outside, act like the dog just won an Oscar and praise praise praise! Lengthen the time between potty times slowly, and begin adding the "gott go potty?" as you open the door. The more "wins" you dog gets, the more it will understand.

  • Crate training is the best way. They need to be crated then let out to do their business (you need a command for this) . They need to go out every 30 minutes, they have tiny bladders. And when you can't take them out or watch them they need to be in a CRATE! That is very imoprtant, other wise they WILL use the bathroom and you will find it later, too late to correct it. Consitency is the key. Crate them, take them out give them a treat immediately after they use the bathroom and take them in and give them time, supervised, outside the crate, then crate them again then do it all over again. In one to two weeks if you are consitent you should have an almost house trained dog. Also, when they are trained putting a bell on the door you let them out of will help too. They will learn to use the bell to let you know they need to go out!
