What exactly do doctors do when doing a blood transfusion?

One of our relatives is having a blood transfusion done so far he is doing ok but his kidney and liver are weak...What can we expect of this? He has been in the hosp. since Thur. 8/27.

  • Its like an I.V. but its full of blood.

  • The doctor just has you sign something sating that you will be recieving blood then it is just like getting an IV except it's blood intead of saline. The nurse will sit with him for 15 minutes of the transfusion to make sure he doesn't have some weird reaction to it which is very rare like a burning sensation. He will feel so much better after the transfusion especially if he is feeling tired and weak. Good luck I will pray for him.
