Why wont she eat?

Solid food that is...
My DD is almost 9 mos old, and she doesnt eat solids yet, just good ol mamas milk.
No matter what I do, she wont eat solids. I even try giving her table food. She seems interested in eating it, but when i give her a bite she makes a face and then clamps her jaws so i cant give her anymore. The only things ive been able to give her is small bites of low mein, small chunks of chicken, and small bites of bread. But she doesnt take them everyday, and its only a bite here and there. Much younger babies I know are gobbling up everything, while my DD just wants to nurse! What gives?

  • does she do cereal mixed w/ breast milk?

I'd try something WITH a little expressed milk.... like creamed/semi pureed cauliflower perhaps?

or something requiring no work on her part like those melty puff things

  • o_O She doesn't NEED any solids yet. Just go with the flow. Offer her solids AFTER nursing, and let her choose if she wants to eat them or not. Not all kids are ready at 6 months(or 9 months)

  • Dont worry about it. She's probably just not ready yet. Before a year the table food is just a learning experience anyway. She is getting all she needs from you. Dont push her. BTW she is too little to be eating meat. I have read that pureed banana is the best thing to start a breastfed baby on because it tastes sweet like breastmilk. Keep in mind that just because other babies are gobbling up everything dosent mean yours should too. Each baby is different. My daughter didnt eat solids till she was about 9 months old because her body just wasent ready, she would get super constipated. She will want it later dont worry.

  • She'll let you know when she's ready. I wouldn't worry.

  • I wouldn't worry, but babies love children and love to copy mommy and daddy. Put the baby in a high chair at dinner time, cut up solids for the baby and have other children and you at the table making a big deal about eating food. The baby will copy eventually.
