What's with the pineapple??

Why are people using pineapple to induce labor?? Is it that particular fruit or fruit in general?? I've never heard of this but would like to know since I am at risk of premature labor but love me some pineapple...should I be staying clear of it for now??

  • No, you don't need to worry. To get the "necessary" amount you'd need alot. But even then, not likely to alter anything.
    Enjoy the fruit! ;-)

  • I ate pineapple during my whole pregnancy with my first child, nothing ever happened to me, I just love pineapple wasn't trying to induce. I don't think it does, I think someone at pinapple and coincidentally went in labor that day or the next day! I had a steak dinner the night before my daughter was born, maybe I should start a rumor that steak induces labor! It's just coincidence.

  • I think it has something to do with if you eat too much you get diarrea and sometimes the irritation from the diarrea can put you into having contractions. Like castor oil, ya know? Just not as potent! lol

  • fresh pineapple has prostoglandans so it can help ripen your cervix, but canned doesn't.
