Umbilical cord question

My dd is 9 days old today, and her little cord stump is in the process of falling off. I don't remember my older daughters falling off, but is it normal for it to be a little bloody and look sort of raw under the stump? Its only attached on the one side now, but my husband is a worry wort and it has me curious as well.

Any help/opinions are welcome :)

  • Yes, that sounds normal. My DD's stump bled a little when it was falling off.

  • sounds normal.

if it gets red and inflamed and oozes or has an icky smell get her to the doctor.

its basically like a big scab coming off.
