Can walking really help labor start/progress?

How long should I walk without over doing it?? If nothing else I know I'll get some exercise...But I would really like to have my baby soon. I am 2cm dilated and 50% effaced. What are the chances walking would bring on labor - did anyone else try it and it work?

  • Walking helps. When you DO start getting contractions I would walk as much as I could to keep them coming.

  • Walking doesnt do anything unless you are already in a steady contraction pattern

  • Some people swear by it. Others say it does nothing.

I fall into that latter category. This is my 4th baby, so I have a bit of experience with it.

  • With my first child it helped some...
With the second I did "curb walking", (you walk the one foot on the curb and the foot on the ground lower than the curb) I did the for about 3 hours (on and off) and went into labor.
