Can I cash the check that is in my husband's name, not mine?

Hi.

I got check refunds from the auto insurance company and the both of
our cars are under my husband's name.

So the checks are automatically in my husband's name.
But I'd like to go to the bank myself and cash it out without my hubby.

I wasn't so sure that I had my husband sign on the back of the checks.

Is it possible that I do it by myself?
Or any other methods?

  • My bank will not let me "cash" a check that's in my husband's name, but they will let me deposit it, and then withdraw money from the account. I guess that would only work assuming that you have a joint account at the bank.

  • If he signs it they shouldn't give you to many issues. Or if the account is in both your names they shouldn't really care. But if it's his account and he doesn't sign it over, you could have an issue.

  • Just deposit it and withdraw the money. Unless you don't want hubby to see the deposit....

  • I have POA specifically for check cashing because sometimes I HAVE to cash a check that is only in his name and with his job, he can be away for long periods of time.

  • Nothing to hide lol My hubby's so busy with his work that he cannot even make it to the bank during the bank's opening hours. Thanks for the comments above all of you. I went to the Ent bank and they willingly let me cash the checks by signing my name below my husband's signature. Thanks!
