What does this mean on a blood test?

What does it mean in a quantitative blood test to get a < 2 result, even if it comes out negative? I thought if you had levels above zero, you're pregnant?

  • It means less than 2. It is possible to have levels up to 10 on any given month and not be pregnant. It also could indicate extremely early pregnancy and other things. A retest even 24 hrs later will be able to tell you a lot.

  • No, less than about 10 is not pregnant. Even men have normal levels above 0 of Hcg. A quant (which is the one with a number attached to it) will tell you how far along you are, but if you ARE pregnant, this is too early even for that.

  • when i was going through fertility treatments they told me any number below 5 is not pregnant and number above 5 needs to be retested in 48 to 72 hours to make sure it is doubling because it is considered positive.
