  • German Shepherd. I'm more partial to them because we have 2 and they are awesome dogs.

  • Great Danes don't live very long. Average, 8 years. Their hearts are too small for their big bodies. Great Danes are docile, & chill. Labs, when they are puppies are incredibly active. You should probably do a lil online research about their temperaments & see which would be better for your family. If you want a excellent, sweet hige dog, i would go w/ a mastiff. They are incredibly friendly, relaxed, smart & huge.

  • I actually agree with the retriever, we have two goldens and they are AMAZING dogs. They are similar to labs where they are a bit high strung as puppies, but I have never, ever worried about leaving my DD with them, even when she was just born, because they are such good dogs. Now my DD is 15 months old and she "rides" them, lays on them, they just kiss her and cuddle up. They are AWESOME dogs.

  • Either one with training. Neither if you won't have time to train it well. I personally prefer Danes over Labs.

  • Danes, definitely. Most labs, as you probably already know, are puppies until they're 5.

But, if I may suggest, Collies are GREAT dogs with babies! They are great companions, and live 10-12 yrs, which is longer than either of the other two breeds. Not to mention, they come in a smooth coat too, so you don't have to fight all the hair! But they are a fairly sensitive breed, so if your home is hustle-bustle, you might think about an American Bulldog. And no, they're not pit bulls, they're Petey on The Little Rascals! They are great family dogs too, as the several that my parents' friends have had while I grew up have been absolute dolls, and they made awesome jungle-gyms!

Also, you might consider an Irish Setter if you're looking for a little more gentle, PEP in a dog... they're super sweet, but thrive on having companionship all the time, so if you're not home during the day, please reconsider.
