  • For Catholics, Christmas Day (Dec. 25) is a holy day of obligation meaning Catholics are required to attend Mass that day (in addition to attending Mass on Sunday).

  • The Catholic church at my kids' school has several masses on Christmas and on Christmas Eve. Actually they have Mass every day and 2 or 3 on Sundays.

  • about me? Like the other Catholics said on Christmas eve at 4pm and then Sunday.

Question other Catholics, if Christmas falls on Saturday or Sunday does a 4pm Saturday Mass fill the obligation?

  • If Christmas is on a Sunday, then you just have to go on Sunday. One Mass fills both obligations.

If Christmas falls on a Saturday you have to go to Christmas Mass on Saturday/Friday night and you still have to go to Mass on Sunday (or Saturday night). So you have to do both.

Likewise if Christmas falls on a Monday, going to Sunday Mass does not fulfill the obligation of going to Mass on Christmas. So you have to go both Sunday and Monday.
