sperm can cause contrations??

i have been reading this from other moms but i have never read it in a book or heard it from an MD. is it true that sperm can cause contrations???

  • No. It doesn't cause contractions, it "ripens" the cervix. (Prostaglandins)
    Orgasm (yours) cause the contractions. (Oxytocin)

  • It isn't the SPERM itself... it is a hormone that is in the ejaculate.

  • Yep. My high risk OB/GYN informed me of this. That's why he tells all his patients no sex during the first trimester. It can cause a miscarriage in those who may be at risk for one.

  • I have never heard that in my life although I have heard plenty of times that sex can cause labor. is why...

    The big O causes your uterus to contract so if you have an orgasm, contractions can continue. AND sperm sitting on the cervix can cause it to efface and them more you efface, the more likely it is for labor to be nearer.

    But I have never heard that the actual sperm causes labor
