What's normal?

OKay well my son had jaundice for the first week or so of his life.. they had me on an every-three-hour feeding schedual, even at night. He's now almost 4 weeks old and I still feed him every three hours... Apperently some babies his age sleep 6 hours a night.. that means their parents dont wake them up every three hours for feedings... Am I allowed to let him sleep? I dont know what's normal and what's not for an infant. Sleeping through the night sounds fantastic though... Right now I haven't woken him up and I last fed him at 11. It's now 3:11 and i'm worried.. i dont know if i'm doing the right thing or if i'm starving my child. Help!

  • I let my babies sleep through the night when they were that young. if they slept and didn't wake up, they must be tired, and not hungry. He's not going to starve to death, if he was hungry he would wake up. But I know how you feel, i checked on mine a lot when they were that age and sleeping sound, it just doesn't seem natural, LOL. but it is. He's tired. let him sleep, when he wakes.... feed him. --mother of 3

  • Sweetie they will usually wake up if their tummy is growling, lol. After the 1st month, both of mine slept all night and would eat when first awake.

  • If he's asleep, let him sleep!!! Mine started sleeping 7 or 8 hours at a time by 5 weeks old and it was awesome! I did worry the first week or so though, thinking that maybe there was something wrong with her because she wasn't waking up, but I soon got used to it :-D
