mucus plug

how soon or late should you lose your mucus plug and if you lose it too early what are the risks?

  • I've read that you can start losing small amounts as early as 28 weeks, but you shouldn't lose all of it until you are closer to your due date.

  • You can lose it as early as the beginning of your third trimester (safely at least). Keep in mind that your mucous plug can regenerate though.

  • It doesn't really matter if it all came out or not. Your mucous plug means close to nothing.

  • Some women lose several whole/partial plugs, they re-grow.

  • I've lost mine in chunks since about 30 weeks...i'm 36 weeks now and losing it little by little still. it regenerates. it's meant absolutely nothing for me though. i'm not any closer to labor than I was back at 30 weeks
