what are the causes for overactive thyroid and what does the thyroid do ?

  • The thyroid controls your metabolism. It takes up iodine found in salt. There really is no cause for overactive thyroid it can be hereditary though.

  • The thyroid controls many hormone functions. It is much more complex than metabolism alone. Something that usually ties in with thyroid problems is progesterone levels being too low. That should be checked along with other hormone levels. There is hyperthyroid (overactive) and hypothyroid (underactive) disorder.

  • Damn I had my thyroid out 3 years ago and I swear I didnt know THAT could be whats up with my hormones. This makes so much sense now. I am on synthroid but it might be time for a dosage change.
