  • An 8 month old could be eating baby food 2-3 times a day. If he can sit in the high chair, you could start feeding him one jar of baby food every time you sit down for a meal. It's never too early to include your baby in family dinner time!

  • Formula (or breastmilk) is meant to be the primary source of nutrition for the entire first 12 months of life.  Solids in the first year are only intended for experimenting with flavors & textures, as well as for developing certain motor skills. They should always be offered after formula (or breastmilk), never before.

If your child is gaining weight steadily, don't worry too much about it.  It sounds like you are doing just fine. :)

  • ITA with mommylady.

Solids are for experimentation only. Breastmilk (or formula) is to be the main source of nutrition. Many babies can go without any solids for 12 month or more and still gain weight stedily. If your child is gaining weight properly than don't worry about it.

Many people will tell you that babies need to eat a ton of food but that's not true nor is it healthy. You can still sit the baby down at dinner with you but you don't have to give him solids. Visit the Delaying Solids and Infant Nutrition Group for more info.

  • NOT at all!! The world health organization states that breastmilk/formula are sufficiant for the first year. Baby food once a day is just fine. It's just supposed to be experimenting. If you are concerned about your babby being left out at dinner time, put him in the highchair and give him some cherrios to snack on. That keeps them busy!

  • I've read that if you are doing solids at 9 months of age, you want to transition them into 3 solid meals a day, but again with the other posters have said, the liquid nutrition doesn't hurt 'em. I wouldn't worry as long as your LO seems full and content!

  • my 8 month old will only eat a jar of baby food a day if that, he mostly drinks formula or I will sit him in his high chair and give him finger foods for snack and he loves it..if he is gaining weight that is fine...
