State governments must have the money to run their states~
William Howell, speaker of Virginia's House of Delegates, who is asking the Obama administration to open an area miles off Virginia's coastline to oil and natural gas exploration by 2011.
The Interior Department's Minerals Management Service estimates
the area Howell and other Virginia lawmakers ask be opened for exploration—some 50 miles out into the Atlantic—could contain 130 million barrels of oil and 1.14 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
"Developing these [energy] resources would create thousands of new jobs in our commonwealth, arriving at the right time to assist in lifting our workers, families, and communities out of this economic recession," Howell says.
What say you?

I understand the environmentalists, but i also understand the need for new jobs. It's a tough one. The bummer part is that they have to spend so much just to make sure that their assumptions are correct & that there actually IS oil there. It's quite common for oil industries to search for oil where they think there is some, & find nothing. So, even though it is believed to have millions of barrels of oil, there is always chance that they are wrong. This is where the environmentalists come in & get all pissey. It would be smart though for Obama to give them the go ahead though. I think he should do it.

I think they should go for it. I wish they would do the same off my coast, NC. The environmentalist are so worried about oil being spilled. That is just a whole mess of crap. This link is a study done by Woods Hole. How are you going to stop nature. Go ahead and drill. We do less damage to the planet than it does to itself.

"No ma'am. YOU are financing the drilling in Brazil through tax payer dollars funnelled through GE to get it up and going. And Brazilians were NOT hired nor were many Americans to do the startup."
Doesnt this just make you want to JUMP FOR JOY!?!?!
