Downs Syndrome

Please don't get offended as I just have a question. this weekend, there was a carnival at the park. there were a group of children that had downs syndrome there. I noticed that while all of the children were very active, that they were also a little on the heavy side. Is this a result of having downs syndrome, that they tend to carry weight?

  • I just googled it because I was curious as well after I read your question and there seems to be some evidence pointing to a lowered basal metabolic rate while the child is at rest or sleeping. Also, DS children tend be less aerobically active. But not all children with DS are overweight...they come in all shapes and sizes.
