Today's Watered Down Speech Is OUR Victory
It concerns me to hear people say conservatives overreacted about Obama's school speech. Let me remind everyone of the timeline of events.
When Matt Drudge got a hold of this story around the first of the month, he brought attention to the White House-published lesson plan/directions for teachers. This lesson plan was encouraging teachers to foster a blind allegiance to our government officials, our biggest problem with this speech. Due to conservative Republican outrage, the White House modified their lesson plan, a few days later.

Obama's speech transcript was released on Sept 7, a day before its airing in our public schools.

  • There is no saying what Obama's speech was, but we heard its current incaranation: a watered-down rambling message about the importance of education, a lesson parents should be teaching their kids, not the government or the President, especially in a time of economic distress. No matter how you look at it... This is a victory for conservatives. It is thanks to our vigilance, our "overreacting", or "paranoia" that government was kept in check.

Do not ever get complacent. That is when they will take our rights away. The government will continue testing its boundaries.

Dissent is patriotic. As a conservative and a Republican, I never found it wrong for the Left to protest the Bush administration and applaud them for keeping things in check. We conservatives should never disparage efforts at protest on ANY SIDE, because these protests against the school speech or healthcare, are fundamentally American.

  • And this is no longer a debate about Left or Right.

No, we did NOT overreact. We achieved a Victory for our country and our values.

  • This is a matter of opinion. I don't see it as a victory, I see it as attempting to scrape together something after the world didn't end Tues afternoon.

He is free to tout it as a victory if he wishes. I think the whole thing was disgraceful, and he would agree with me, although for vastly different reasons.

There is a reason this is called "spin."

Distributed to every school in the country, but revised at the last minute late last week in direct response to the complaints about it asking kids to write about what they can do to help the president. Google it you'll find it all over the place.
