Have you heard this song? My mother used to sing it to me. (versions may vary).

Don't ever laugh as the hearse goes by
For you may be the next to die.
They put you in a big black box
then cover you up with dirt and rocks.

All goes well for about a week
and then your coffin begins to leak.
The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out
The worms play Pinochle on your snout.

They eat your eyes, they eat your nose
They eat the jelly between your toes.
A big green worm with rolling eyes
crawls in your stomache and out your eyes.

Your stomach turns a slimy green
and puss pours out like shaving creme.
Spread it on some moldy bread,
that's what you eat when you are dead.

  • LMAO my dad used to sing that to me! He loves morbid stuff like that. He would do a crazy dance while he sang it, it used to make me laugh. He also sings the "They're coming to take me away, ha ha. They're coming to take me awaaaaaaaaay!"

  • That is funny. My mom did not sing that particular song, but the ones she did sing were rather grim. Streets of Laredo is about a dying cowboy, then there was Tavern in the Town is about a jilted woman going to kill herself.
    These are the songs her dad sang to her, apparently they didn't have any sweet lullabies back then. LOL
    I do sing them to my kids too.

    As I walked out in the streets of Laredo,
    As I walked out in Laredo one day,
    I spied a poor cowboy wrapped up in white linen,
    Wrapped up in white linen as cold as the clay.

    "Oh, beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly,
    Play the dead march as you carry me along;
    Take me to the green valley, there lay the sod o'er me,
    For I'm a young cowboy and I know I've done wrong.

    "I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy" --
    These words he did say as I boldly stepped by.
    "Come sit down beside me and hear my sad story;
    I am shot in the b

  • your mom used to sing this to you? why? I have never heard it and if my mom sang it to me I would be scared as heck lol

    Answer by cassie_kellison at 10:17 AM on Sep. 10, 2009

  • WOW, how sad to have those kinds of poems or songs spoken or sang to a child. The Bible says the power of life & death is in the tongue & you can speak blessings or curses with it... we choose to speak life & blessings over our children to uplift & encourage them...
