  • I guess is a sin to take pride in the way you look because you know you're supposed to think about God 24/7 and not about if your earrings match your outfit or if your butt looks to big in your skinny jeans...

    And you, O desolate one, what do you mean that you dress in scarlet, that you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold, that you enlarge your eyes with paint? In vain you beautify yourself. Your lovers despise you; they seek your life.

        30And you, O desolate one, what will you do?
             Although you dress in scarlet,
             Although you decorate yourself with ornaments of gold,
             Although you enlarge your eyes with paint,
             In vain you make yourself beautiful
             Your lovers despise you;
             They seek your life.

  • i dunno. the same reason some ppl read certain Bible verses & assume all instrumental worship is a sin. or the same reason some ppl read certain Bible verses & think they can't eat inside the church building. or that women can only wear skirts & must wear their hair up in public. or why some ppl read the Bible, think its a buncha bologna & assume its followers are stupid.

    sorry i know thats not the answer you're looking for. some Christians believe more in rules than their relationship while some just feel that God doesn't want them to participate in such things. so many things are up to interpretation & many ppl leave that interpretation up to one man so whatever that guy says they agree with. not saying everyone does this, but i know first hand many many Christians that do. sorry...not much help.

  • The thing people do not understand is Jesus came and fulfilled that. You can wear jewelry but back in those days the ones that wore a lot of jewelry were harlots. God wanted the israelites to be separate from those kinds of people.

  • anon 7:16: ah the use of the random verse out of context...nice

    if you read the entire chapter you would see that this is not talking about how ppl should/shouldnt dress. its talking about Judah being destroyed & that they can no longer pretend to be a beautiful city. they can no longer hide their bad deeds behind their mask of pretty things.

    these verses do not talk about any woman, but the city of Jerusalem.

  • It's not a sin to wear a modest amount of makeup. The bible tells us about looking modest. Wearing expensive jewelry is not something we should do.
    Read Esther 2:12-13 and you will see that it's okay for a woman to try to look beautful. Before a girls turn came to go in to King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months in oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics. And this is how she would go to the king...”

    That's a long time of beauty treatments! lol

    Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.
