When a baby first starts to produce tears, can it bring on cold like symptoms?

My one month old little boy is just starting to get his first tears, and has a slight cold all of the sudden.

  • Tears drain down into the nose and throat. That's why a runny nose often accompanies a tantrum. So it's completely possible that the tears are masquerading as cold symptoms.

  • when my daughter was 2 wks old her eye swelled up and got red. The doc said it was because her tear duct *which he also said drains into the nose* was clogged. Maybe since his tears are functional, its just moving mucos through his nose??

  • Yeah, I don't know how he got it, but it's a cold.. His sister has it now too. Only she's acting very grumpy like it's going to get worse.
