How can I fix my fingernails?

I usually don't wear any nail polish on my fingernails except for a clear coat but SO and I went out last night and I painted them red. When I removed the polish this morning my nails were a weird pinkish color (I thought a base coat would prevent that??) and there's nail polish in my cuticles that I can't seem to remove. Does anyone have any tips on how to make them go back to normal quickly?

  • Ive heard lemon (not sure if juice or the whole fruit works, try googling it) takes the stain off.
