parvo shot?

k the hubby wanted to do the parvo shot to our puppy on his own. well when he gave it to her everytime he got the needle in she would move he would take the needle out and replace it back in her again. he ended up poking her like 5 times finally finishing the whole medicine. well after she bled quite a bit. Then later on she had the runs. Was it cuz of the shot and was the bleeding something he did wrong or was it just cuz how many times he poked her? Thanks.

  • Could be because of stress. Personally I hate to see them done at home. If the diarrhea does not go away quickly take her to the vet.

  • i dont think the runs had anything to do with it... my dad did the same thing and if the dog moves you have to put all the medicine in. the pup might bleed a bit and be a little sore there but it should be okay. but if you notice your dog being sick like not eating, laying down all the time, ect... for more than a week then take him to the vet.

  • Diarrhea can be a reaction to a vaccine. It is more common with the combination vaccines (Distemper, Parvo, and Lepto are often given in the same shot). Keep a close eye on her in case she is having a bad reaction. Other signs can be listlessness, fever, shaking, vomiting, coughing, etc. If the diarrhea lasts more than a day, get her to the vet. If any of the other symptoms above show up, get her there immediately.

Unless she's bleeding a large amount, I wouldn't worry too much about that. The site will be sore for a few days, so don't touch her there. Good luck!

  • I wouldn't let him do it at home anymore unless you can get a vet to show you how to do it correctly. Sometimes, it can happen that they will bleed a little when the shot is given if a blood vessel is hit but if you know what you are doing that is less likely to happen. It could be stress, the shot or worms causing this, i would just take her to the vet.

  • Parvo shot should be done by the vet.. If u don't get all the vaccine in & they come down with Parvo it's extremely expensive & it has a high death rate.. Some shots r supposed to be given subq or im, u have to be careful to make sure they r done correctly or the shot will have no effect, & then it's a waste of money.. A little bleeding can be normal, but not a lot & if there is, take the pup to the vet immediately.. Good Luck.. :-).. TTFN
