my baby is 10 weeks and he naps 4 to 5 times a day. Most of his naps are 30 minutes and one is for 2 to 3 hours. Is he getting enought sleep? Does anyone knows a web site where I can find information about the develop of the babies? When they drop their naps to twice a day?

  • How does he act? Does he act tired as if he's not getting enough sleep? If not, then he's getting enough sleep.

They drop to two naps when they are ready to drop to two naps. Not what you're looking for, but that's the way it happens.

You'll be much happier (and so will he) if you go with his flow....feed, sleep and change on demand.

  • Do you have a good book on child development? There should be several at your local library; I recommend Touchpoints by T. Berry Brazelton and anything by Penelope Leach. Dr. Brazelton has a great website: www.touchpoints.org

  • i read that you should base your childs sleep amount on if he is getting at least 12 hours of sleep a day not based on their naps...

  • Collectively a baby needs about 14 hrs a day. Is he getting that?

  • Sounds like he's overtired. Sleep begets sleep. Find a way to get him over this little "hump" and get a couple of longer naps in there. Maybe changing a routine a bit...feeding closer to when he's going to nap? He also may just be trying to change his routine.

Are you trying to force a schedule on him? Stop. Let him call the shots.

As for books...babies don't ever read the book. Just remember that.

  • 5 naps seems like a lot.

mine has been doing three naps a day since 4wks. 9-11, 12:30-3, 4:30-5:30.

she still has that schedule at 5m

  • this is a good chart imo

    http://www.babycenter.com/0_how-much-sleep-does-your-child-need_7645.bc

according to it, your baby would need about 15 hours of sleep, but plus/minus 2 hours because everyone's needs are different.

when my son was that young, he also too several short naps, but no long naps.
